Specification

A combined drop-out surge arrester/fuse is a single pole-mounted outdoor device that merges an expulsion fuse cutout with a metal-oxide surge arrester. Both the fuse cutout and surge arrester are fitted with polymer shed insulators. It saves crossarm space by providing dual protection: diverting lightning overvoltages to earth and automatically dropping open to isolate short-circuit or overloaded lines.

Key Functions and Design 
Surge Protection: The built-in arrester with polymer sheds clips lightning and switching overvoltages, protecting downstream assets like distribution transformers. 
Overcurrent Isolation: The fuse link melts under excessive fault current, creating an arc that is quenched inside the expulsion tube. 
Drop-Out Mechanism: If the surge arrester fails or the fuse blows, a mechanical spring or gravity release triggers the unit to swing downward, providing a clear visual indication of a tripped phase. 
Interlocking Safety: Designed so the fuse carrier cannot be closed unless the paired surge arrester assembly is properly locked in place.
